Whoa Classic working valve AM radio - guitar amp!

Now here is something from my misspent youth...
This is a classic mantel radio from the late 50s. It had an input on the back for a Xstal gramophone pick up...About the age of 11 I found out that I could plug my electric guitar into this input, not only did I have an instant valve guitar amp BUT I could play along to all my favorite songs on the Radio - ha.

THIS ONE FULLY FUNCTIONAL, though is there still AM radio in Sydney? don't know

$75

Sub Compact Bass monitor 300W

Ah now this is a piece I'm proud of. I computer designed this to THE SMALLEST possible bass box - monitor. It goes all the way down to 40hz- bottom E on the bass guitar. Its tiny for a bass box (that is a CD case in the pic on the left to give you a sense of scale)

Best of all the bass port can be pushed in for transport and just pulled up for performance. I used this in a band where I played a bass-piano split and sang. It kicks butt and won't break your back. Has 300w driver @ 93db efficiency.
$150

Professional sound level meter

Sound Level Meter, great for those acoustic measurements, has weighted scales and self calibration. Professional tool and comes in nice case.
$150

Miniature Phantom Power Supply with Cannons

Miniature Phantom power supply. Need phantom power for that nice mic into your sound card?
Here is the cheap solution, no desk required.
$40

Classic fully restored 1976 VW KOMBI CAMPERVAN

and here for Part II

Price: 15k - no offers - no time wasters

NICE BEHRINGER DUAL AUTO compressor

This is a nice behringer compressor. I've used it in the PA, in the final mix of the analog recording process and on the drum kit.
Has an excellent "auto" feature to decide its own setting that actually works well! - no pumping, no clipping and a nice fat sound!

STEREO- DUAL mode, standard rack size.

TLC: works fine, only the LEDS on left channel fail to meter properly, but since I mainly use it in stereo I just match the left side to the metering right side or just hit "auto" !

NICE UNIT $150

Compact Technics Cassette recorder

Neat little unit, VU meters, DOLBY, mic inputs on front. Half rack size.
TLC: just like the others needs new rewind belt...

Price: $25

REDBACK AUSSIE MADE PA AMP

This is only a MONO 30w amp but as well as regular output it has a 100v line output so you can string up dozens of ceiling speakers to it in an office - muzak- announcement sort of set up.
Mic and Line inputs

TLC none: goes fine

Price $75

Lightweight tough Alesis 16 channel desk with FX

Tough ABS casing. 16 Channels, bus outputs, stereo outputs. Nice Alesis effects. 4 sends.
Weighs nothing. Great for live or if you have a zillion playback sources in your studio that need mixing.

A studio buddy gave me this to fix....
DESK is fine but external dual power supply has failed...most likely the cable has broke inside..or the switching transistor has failed.

Knock your self out $125

Modified Behringer Mixing desk

I had this as part of a small band PA. Its been modified so it has 4 direct outs for recording - a feature which no small desk seems to have.

So you can use it as PA or as in input/ output to your computer (also teams up well with the REVMIX listed in this blog)

Has Phantom power 4 mic channels, 2 stereo channels, FX and monitor loops, multiple outputs, adjustable channel gain, clip indicator...everything you need.

TLC: Mic channel 4 has a dicky cannon input..but jack input works fine. PRICE $100

FOSTEX E80 multi-track pro reel-reel recorder A1

This is a lovely machine. I've done lots of excellent recording on it. Easy to use, superb quality. Has DOLBY C on it if you want to use it.
8 ins 8 outs. A-B play back and recording, foot switch punch in and out....

and the word "latency" is NO WHERE to be heard....ah analog perfection.

TLC: None 100% nice.
This is the last of my 8 track machines no more after this....
PS if you want this you should also buy my tape stock
PRICE: $450 (judging by all the calls the last one was way too cheap...)

Classic Sony multi speed reel to reel recorder

It was 1969...Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and SONY released the sexiest home tape recorder EVER the TC-377

With its cool slated front it just looked "futuristic". Feature packed.
3 tape speeds 7.5-3.75-1.75 ips
Sound on Sound
Mixable mic and line inputs
Adjustable bias
Super hard Ferrite on Ferrite heads.
This was pre dolby but the high tape speed made up for that.

TLC: Only that the notch on the "play" position is a worn, you need to push it a bit past its usual point to lock in....no big deal. 5 mins with a file.....I've used it to record rehearsals and its just lovely.

$100

KAWAI - 8 channel reverb mixer - very useful little half rack

Now this is a really useful little half rack unit.
4 stereo mic-line channels with pans, FX sends and a high quality built in Reverb.

I've used it as a
*submixer for drum kit....
*An output mixers for the 8 channels out of my computer sound card
*Extra 8 channels into the PA system
*Live reverb unit in a fx loop
note: it does not have EQ in it.

Nice bit of kit, weighs nothing, takes up little room...
TLC: none and comes with suitable wall wart...
$100

Supercope stereo twin speed cassette with Dolby

Ah now this was the flagship...

Two speed, twin meter, external mic inputs
AND Dolby noise reduction.
New this unit sold for $699 and was the state of the art in portable recorders in the 1970's second only to the NAGRA.
TLC...no prizes for guessing, just like all the others needs a new belt but also needs meter calibrated

$100

Superscope - mono model

This is a two speed mono superscope as favored by news reporters - better quality but not stereo.
Two speed, manual or auto level control.
Just like all the others...needs a new belt, which I can supply if you liberate the old one.
$75

Superscope - multi speed cassette recorder

Ah, the musicians best friend for the last 30 years. Play back your music at half speed and learn all those licks!
Excellent for recording band rehearsals too, nothing like that natural tape compression.
TLC, needs new rewind belt, can supply if you liberate the old one first

$75

Vane Engine Analyser with looms & stand

This was the latest and greatest in 1979. Complete engine tune up in real time.
Yep that IS a real cathode ray scope in the center!

Comes with stand, 2 engine looms and exhaust gas analyzer

TLC: there is no manual so if you are unfamiliar you'll need to find a mechanic over the age of 50 to fill you in on the advanced features, but the basics, dwell, timing, compression, Fuel to Air are pretty self evident.

The gas analyzer has been adapted to run on 12v - to be portable away from the vane, but will need calibrating against a know source (ie a modern fuel injected car when warm...0.2% CO)

IDEAL for old school carby engines best of all it looks so COOL sitting the corner of your garage - makes you look like such a (old school) pro....

$125

Restored 1970s Pearl snare drum

Real nice, extra deep wood snare from the 70's
TLC - none, tuned and ready to go

$150

Highly portable big band music stands

I have about 20 of these we had made for the big band. They fold down into 2 flat pieces for easy storage and transport. Ideal for big band, school band or any sit down and play situation.
$10 each

12/240v Buskers PA system

4x6inch speakers, 20w power amp, 20AH battery, mic and line inputs.
Great for playing backing tracks when busking, lot more umph than saythe Ashton busking amp for example...(no offence Ashton..got one of those too!)
$75

TLC: dicky input sockets, noisy pot, battery on last legs...

Studio Rack Unit

3 piece (standard) Studio rack unit - Aluminium and perspex - looks really cool on the table top with all the units in it! Plus you can put extra gear on top...like a computer monitor

$30

TLC will need more panel screws...
